This time 4 years ago, I was in the Medi-Clinic waiting for surgery.
Over a period of 3 months, I underwent 3 major operations to cut the spreading cancer from my body and lymph nodes.
Just as I would start to heal from one surgery, my doctor would phone and say, “I’m sorry Linda. The biopsy showed there’s still more…” and back under the knife I would go.
I remember crying to my therapist at the time, saying “I don’t want to die.”
It was all I could think about and I felt paralysed.
I also felt completely unsupported at work and believed I was expected to just continue working like my life wasn’t flashing before my eyes…
It was during a challenging time in my marriage. We had moved house after an armed robbery. Emotions ran high and finances were tight. Our kids were sensitive and anxious. All-in-all… a pretty difficult time!
I remember feeling like it would never pass. Like this would be my life forever.
I was wrong.
It did pass.
I did heal.
Life improved.
Things calmed down.
It wasn’t forever.
I look back on that time with gratitude because it taught me the meaning of those famous words, “This too shall pass.”
So, special one, if you are having a difficult time, my wish for you is that you take comfort in the fact that it won’t last forever.
It’s a chapter.
A season.
And you will heal.
Love,
Linda
